The Real Work Begins

I rarely write about religion or politics on this blog, but every so often I am so inspired by the words in a Sunday morning homily that I can't get away from them. These were shared this morning.
When the song of the angel is stilled,
When the star in the sky is gone,
When the Kings and Princes are home,
When the shepherds are back with their flocks
The real work of Christmas begins.

To find the lost
To heal the broken
To feed the hungry
To release the prisoners
To rebuild the nations
To bring peace among brothers
To make music in the heart.
Father Fred shared this and told us he first read these words on a card he received years ago from one of his grammar school teachers. My blog searching tells me it was written by Howard Thurman.

  2. While procrastinating from preparing for my ccd class, I stopped by some of my favorite kidlitosphere blogs. Lucky for me. I can now count that time as prep work because I plan to share these lovely words with my class!

  3. I appreciate these reflective posts of yours, and I am a big Father Fred fan. I think about what it means to live the liturgical calendar. A poem like this helps. Thank you.
