Poetry Friday - #DearOneLBH

Today I'm sharing a poem that includes a line from a Lee Bennett Hopkins poem and is inspired by the man himself. He is so very missed.

The line I chose is "He opened the door." It is the first line from the poem entitled Librarian, found in the book School People. Here is that poem.

And here is mine.

Always Opening Doors
He opened the door
to the magic of words
of word play
of metaphor
of poetry
He was pure poetry

He opened the door
for writers of rhythm
writers of rhyme
writers of nature
of space and of time
He was pure poetry

He opened the door
for teachers
for children
for young and for old
for the love of a poem
and the joy that it holds

Lee opened the door

  1. Yes, he did open the door for generation of children and adults to enjoy poetry, Tricia. I like the repeated line opening each stanza and this line, "He was pure poetry."

  2. Beautiful. I'm sure Lee not only would have liked it...but chosen this for a new anthology.

  3. Oh, Tricia. What a wonderful poem. That is so him, the one who opened doors! Thank you for this, even though it is hard. Very hard to deal with not having Lee among us, but so grateful to have known him.

  5. You've shown so beautifully Lee's graciousness in inviting everyone to show their love of poetry, life itself. Thank you, Tricia!

  6. So so many doors. I love the way you describe these different ones. It's almost like I can see him doing it. Hug. xx

  13. Lee opened so many doors for so many people...great use of repetition, as Lee repeated these kid acts over and over.
