NPM 2020 on Poetry Friday - The Beach

On the first day of National Poetry Month, I shared a poem that ended with the line  "I'll take the mountains." Today I'm thinking differently.
Virginia Beach, VA
April 2019

spring sunrise at the beach
quiet winds and birds my friends
waiting for the waves
to wash over my feet
the shock takes me back
to dipping my toes in
a cool mountain stream
in both places
barefoot is best

  1. Just lovely--I love both the beach and the mountains and agree that barefoot is best in both places and in between, too.

  2. It's always a shock, isn't it? SO COLD!
I really regret the hikes I haven't taken when I can't get out to mountain streams or beaches. Here's hoping this break will remind us to be more proactive in our pursuit of places to be barefoot.

  3. Oh my, barefoot is best, but it's ice cold, especially int the mountain streams.

  4. Yesterday we had a little snow here in your old neck of the woods...and your poem has me signing for the forthcoming barefoot days. I love "birds my friends." Lots of love and health to you and yours. xx

  7. Bare foot is best for grounding us, in the surf or the stream or even, on the cool wood floors of our houses as we ride out our current reality. Thanks for sharing your wet toe memories. :)

  8. Yes, barefoot is best. Hope we'll be able to go to the beach and enjoy that shock of cold this year!
