Today's found poem is a zentangle poem. Kat Apel does a really nice job describing them on her site. This is similar to blackout poetry, though doodles and lines are used to block and frame the words.
This poem was made from a page (p. 197) in the story "William the Conqueror," found in Maugham's Choice of Kipling's Best, published by Doubleday & Company in 1953. I found this at a thrift shop, so even though it set my teeth on edge to destroy a used book, I did enjoy creating this poem about things I actually love, save one. Can you guess which one is NOT true?

Although I don't know you that well, this list, along with the title of your blog confirms that we are kindred spirits. Based on that, I'm guessing that telegrams, which usually bring bad news, are not something you like. I love this form, and will be trying it out soon.

I knew this poem was meant to be when teaching appeared first in the list.
I wondered if you had actually been to the foothills of the Himalayas. I like your colored pencil artistic "scribbles". I would have to use a scanned or photocopy to play with it and then create the Zentangle. Yes....you and teaching. Making a list poem is a good technique I think, especially for kids who might feel constricted by staying "in order". I just did a cento and I actually enjoyed it. Part of a class I was taking. Did not even know it was a form. I learned a lot by researching. Janet Clare F. (Needed to edit!)

ReplyDeleteHah. Of big gatherings I don't imagine you're a fan. I do love these poems, they're so artistically rendered, but yeah... The destruction bit is daunting for me.
