My poem for Day 11 of National Poetry Month is written to Pigeon Message from Major Whittlesey to the Commanding Officer of the 308th Infantry (1918).

battlefield messengers

of the feathered kind

braved harsh conditions 

kept rear commanders informed  

of enemy movements

and friendly fire
