NPM 2023 - Poem 9

My poem for Day 9 of National Poetry Month is written to the Amnesty Oath of Robert E. Lee (1865). 

After surrender

he promised to uphold the Constitution

expressed a desire for reconciliation

transitioned from treasonous general

to college president
