Poetry Sisters Get Herpetological

Laura set this month's challenge to write a "poem comparing something with a snake — some snake pairing you think has never been done before! 8 lines or less."

Hmmmmm ... my brain has been on overload since I started my sabbatical in earnest 3 weeks ago. I'm going to blame it for my inability to follow the rules in any meaningful way. I did however come up with something that is a close tangent.

What a Herpetologist Sees

That lamp cord, that shoelace,
that bathrobe waist tie,
some pasta just rolled up
jet trails in the sky
Anguiform, serpentine
shapes all around
each place that I look
snakes simply abound

  2. Love your snake poem! They say one mark of a great poem is that it changes the way you see a certain thing forever--and you have done that for bathrobe waist ties (for me). Also love the way you embedded a five-star vocabulary word (anguiform) in this poem. I'd say that your sabbatical is doing great things for you already!!!

  3. So fun. That was my experience, too---when I knew I was writing about snakes, I saw them absolutely everywhere. I love your comparisons here, but also how the specific leads to defining terms leads to personal reflection. It makes the whole thing feel balanced.
