I've been reading quite a lot of Ted Kooser lately. Like Valerie Worth, his writing brings the most ordinary items gloriously to life.
A Spiral NotebookThe round up this week is hosted by Kelly at Big A little a. Do stop by and take in all the great poems being shared. Before you go, be sure to check out the love poems written for this week's poetry stretch results.
by Ted Kooser
The bright wire rolls like a porpoise
in and out of the calm blue sea
of the cover, or perhaps like a sleeper
twisting in and out of his dreams,
for it could hold a record of dreams
if you wanted to buy it for that
Read the poem in its entirety.
As a spiral notebook addict, I completely identify with that poem! Even the standing there, hemming and hawing over a simple purchase. Although I still buy the 5 subject ones, because they're bigger and can hold a whole novel's worth of notes.
ReplyDeleteI love spiral notebooks -- as long as they're the kind with the zip-out, serrated pages. (None of my teachers let me turn in the ripped out pages.) They always do look like they're for serious work, but I prefer them to all the pretty journals people give me; I have trouble writing a word in those!
ReplyDeleteNever thought of growing old as not having to give equal attention to 5 subjects but being able to linger on one.
ReplyDeleteA simple item, one we can get for ten cents each at school supplies time can inspire such thoughts!
That's why the world needs poets!
I love this poem, but despise spiral notebooks, just one of the many curses in my left-handed existence.
ReplyDeleteI'll never think of my spiral notebooks the same way again! yay!
